As recorded regionwide, the total crime volume for the third quarter of 2006 decreased by more than 14% from 1,055 in 2005 to 907 incidents this year. All Provincial/City Police Offices in the region reported decreases in crimes except for Iligan City, which increased from 124 to 137 crime incidents.

Of the total crimes for this quarter, 483 cases or 53% were classified as index crimes while 424 cases or 47% were non-index crimes.  Among the index crimes, 273 incidents were crimes against persons, while 210 were crimes against property.  Notably, only homicide increased by 93.3% from 30 cases in the third quarter of 2005 to 58 cases in 2006 of the same period, while the rest of the index crimes dropped significantly.

With the reduction in crime volume,  the average monthly crime rate (AMCR) dropped from 10.03 to  8.62 incidents per 100,000 population, of the same period this year.

 Out of the 907 cases, only 842 were solved, reflecting a crime solution efficiency (CSE) of 92.8%, 1.6 percentage points lower than that of last year’s figure (94.4%).  (Table 1-2)

Oroquieta City Established this barangay-based, city-wide network of volunteers with two-prolonged approach to addressing criminality in the city:

  • Crime prevention through advocacy and the establishment of a comminity-based and neighborhood watch and early warning systems.
  • Quick response teams to intervene act during actual crime cases in the community.
