NORMINET

NORMINET, which stands for Northern Mindanao Information
Network is a collaborative project among Regional Development Council
(RDC-10) member agencies/units with the goal of setting up an Internet
domain for Northern Mindanao government and non-governmental organizations.
Conceptualized and owned by RDC-10 in 1997, the
project took off in 1998 with an initial funding from the Department
of Science and Technology, Regional Office 10. A Mail and Web Server
was purchased for the project and was co-located in one of the local
Internet Service Providers. Currently, NORMINET's servers are maintained
by Websprinter Cable Internet.
The norminet.org.ph domain is paid up by the Regional
Development Council and its servers are open for hosting webpages
of government and RDC-NGO member agencies/units/offices in Northern
Mindanao without cost. E-mail accounts can also be provided to the
same entities for free.
At the moment, the National Economic Development
Authority (NEDA-10), Regional Office No.10, as secretariat of the
RDC, develops and maintains the NORMINET mother homepage (see webteam).
It also coordinates with the local government units and other national
government agencies at the regional level in the updating of the
NORMINET information.
While NEDA-10 oversees the implementation
of the NORMINET homepage, its contents are not entirely done by
the NEDA/RDC staff. We intend to make the NORMINET as a portal to
regional information and thus encourage every major institution
in the region to develop their own websites and either link it to
or publish it in the NORMINET server.
